About Me

Hello, my name is Melanie, and I am passionate about helping individuals and couples find peace and happiness in their personal lives and interpersonal relationships. Through my educational and professional background as well as my experience working with a vast array of clientele in a community setting, I recognize the importance of flexibility and adaptability as a therapist. I work from a collaborative, strengths-based, and humanistic approach while utilizing extensive training in EMDR and relationship distress issues to meet the individual and unique needs of my clients. I absolutely love my work and learn daily as I witness the strength and resilience of my amazing clients.

I am proud to share that therapy has been an enriching part of my own personal life, so much so that I left a long, successful career in sales to launch a second career as a therapist. In the world of counseling, there is the term "wounded healer" which describes someone whose painful experiences allows them to help others by being empathetic, accepting, and resourceful. I believe that the hard work that I have done to make peace with my own past adversity has given me the natural skills to sit with my clients in an accepting, nonjudgmental environment that fosters acceptance and growth- something that was so important to me on my own journey. While many clients enter therapy feeling like their worst possible selves, I want to help you to focus on what IS working and where your strengths and resiliencies are. Even if you have doubt this can be done, I want to help you on your journey to find and celebrate that best version of yourself.

I have an M.S.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St Bonaventure University in New York and have received extensive training in EMDR, The Gottman Method (levels 1 & 2), and other trauma-informed modalities. My experience ranges from adolescents to older adults with a wide spectrum of presenting issues including severe trauma, addictions, family conflict, depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, along with sexual orientation and gender identity issues and sexual presentations with traditional and non-traditional couples.

Outside of the therapy office, you'll usually find me spending time with my husband and two dogs, Harley and Angus. Originally from South Louisiana, I love the mild weather here in the Carolinas and will take as much time as possible outdoors- whether it's boating on the lake, hiking in the mountains, or just reading a book in my backyard. I truly believe that self-care is not selfish, and I love to recharge and de-stress as often as possible so that I can be present and healthy for my clients. I chose this as a second career because friends and family have always been drawn to me when in need of an empathetic, understanding ear. I am also highly involved in philanthropic work, including a recent new home build in Cambodia through Habitat for Humanity. I wanted to bring this love of helping others and advocacy to the forefront of my life and I cannot wait to see what changes we can make, together, through your strength and resiliency.
